Daily Mail Attacks Misa Cosplaying Conservative (Mistakes Costume for 'Racy' Pics)

Conservative activist Marina Muttik - Daily Mail December 2nd 2015

The Daily Mail is running a scandal piece about a British Conservative politician (or three) and his bullying/blackmail tactics, which led to his victim's suicide.

Then they went after the politician's defender on Twitter, who just happened to be an attractive, blonde-haired lady.

Under the lucid headline, Tatler Tory and a very naughty blonde activist: Shapps was made a scapegoat over scandal, says campaigner (who loves to post rather racy photos on social media) (Daily Mail, Dec 2nd 2015), the 'news' paper attempted to discredit Marina Muttik - head of Bristol and Gloucestershire Conservative Future - because one cannot be pretty on Twitter AND hold valid political views regarding one's friends in government.

Marina Muttik doesn't need further discrediting. She's a Conservative.
However, then Britain's most insidious tabloid actually reproduced the Tweeted photographs of the young Tory campaigner, so that we could gasp in shock and outrage at someone in suspenders daring to express an opinion regarding politics.  Instead, every undiscerning Death Note fan out there (i.e. those daft enough to read the Daily Mail) and the folk catching it on social media later all frowned in abject familiarity.

Ms Muttik was wearing Misa Amane cosplay.  She was even holding Misa-Misa's replica Death Note.  The clues were there.  In a secondary cited picture, she's even got shinigami eyes, hopefully courtesy of contact lenses.

Thus raising a much more pertinent question - the British Conservative Party have a Death Note?  And a second Kira to wield it on their side?!

Death Note Producers Nippon TV Open New Offices in Singapore

NTV produced Death Note anime, TV drama, original films
and the forthcoming Death Note 2016
Death Note's copyright holders NTV seem to be going for world domination.  In addition to a recent collaboration deal with German distributors Red Arrow Entertainment, and teaming up with Sony to create GEM TV Channel (broadcasting across Asia), the company has just announced that its setting up an office in Singapore.

Nor is Nippon bashful about why.  It's all 'part of (NTV's) continuing pursuit to become the leading media content company in Asia', according to their press release on the subject.

The new venture will be called NTV Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd, with a start-up injection of $1m cash in US dollars, all contributed by parent company NTV.  Hidetoshi Hiramatsu - currently NTV's managing director of International Business - will assume command as NTV Asia Pacific's first CEO, naturally based in Singapore. Their new logo is below:

NTV Asia Pacific
So what will this mean for fans of Death Note?   Too early to know really, though NTV Asia Pacific will have immediate access to the entire Death Note franchise - as owned by NTV - and an easy means to request more.  I guess it's one of those know that it happened situations, then wait and see.

Teen Wolf's Arden Cho Wades in on the US Death Note Whitewashing Furore

2/12/2015

Twitter has been in uproar, cheering on and retweeting US actress Arden Cho's comments about the US live-action Death Note movie, and its strangely Caucasian casting choices thus far.

Known for her bad-ass role as Kira Yukimura in TV drama Teen Wolf, Arden Cho was scathing about Death Note casting overlooking Asian actors in the USA.  She initially Tweeted:

Then, in response to Lauren, a commenter who wrote, 'MANY talented Asian actors/actresses to choose from and yet they whitewash the whole film!'  Arden posted:

Nor had she finished there.

Finally, Arden Cho had a greeting for Edward Zo (possibly tipped off by the furore on Twitter regarding her comments about whitewashing Death Note):
Arden Cho tweets Edward Zo

Asian-American actor Edward Zo had previously - and quite famously - been vocal on the subject of Death Note US live-action movie auditions excluding Asian actors.  Silence means approval and neither Arden nor Edward are prepared to be silent on this issue.  Nor are a whole lot of other people judging by the amount of retweets and replies each exposee and protest prompted.

What do you think?

Manga UK Asks If We'd Like Death Note Anime on Blu-Ray?

Manga UK Death Note Blu-Ray poll.

Manga UK Blu-Ray Death Note Poll
(Screenshot Dec 2nd 2015)
I'm a little late on this one, but there's still a day left to vote in Manga Entertainment Ltd's weekly poll.

It's asking whether we would like to see Death Note released on Blu-Ray, and spells out the reasons why this might be a preferable thing to, say, DVD or streaming the anime online.

Read what they have to say and vote before midnight tonight on their website.

This isn't just a random internet poll by the way.  Manga Entertainment Ltd has close links with Viz Media - which owns the North American rights to the Death Note anime - and its subsidiary Manga UK is the largest distributor of Japanese anime in Britain.

In short, this poll might be your big moment to influence wavering policy. Or it might be a subtly disguised heads up that it's going to happen anyway.  Only they're going to create the circumstances to state that we demanded it outright via this poll.

Either way the poll is there, vote if you will, don't if you won't.

The Cosplayer Chronicles:  Ichibancon Death Note Panellists Squad Six Cosplayers Update on their Special Guest Cayanna Carma (New Column for Death Note News)

Brand, new feature for Death Note News -  Squad Six Cosplayers keep a diary as they prepare for their Death Note panel at US anime convention, Ichibancon 2016.  In Death Note cosplay, of course!
Squad Six Cosplayers Death Note Notes The Cosplayer Chronicles
There's a lot of work to be done, if Squad Six Cosplayers are going to be ready to take the stage at Ichibancon - one of North Carolina's largest anime conventions - at midnight on January 1st 2016.  It's not only our Death Note panel in which we are performing, but out and about too.  On show just by being there, because we will be in full cosplay.

And those costumes need to be designed and made ahead of time.  We have a reputation to uphold.  It's not good enough merely to have those clothes fitting properly, we have to become the characters in our Death Note cosplay.  But in that, we've elicited a little help.

Cayanna Carma to Cosplay Kira at Ichibancon 2016 Death Note Panel

Cayanna Carma will be Squad Six Cosplayers' special guest at Ichibancon. Joining forces at our Resurrecting L: Death Note 10th Anniversary panel.

She will be cosplaying Light Yagami for us, and we just know that will bring in a huge crowd.

Cayanna Carma is known through the convention community for her ability to encompass the attitude and personality of each character she portrays. She's just fantastic.  She's a 24 year old that can draft her own cosplay patterns, taught herself to sew, and can piece together shoes, props, pants, shirts, gloves, and even wigs with no issues.

Though Cayanna Carma will be taking on Kira at the Ichibancon anime convention, she's MOST known for her cosplay from Kuroshitsuji and Naruto. You can check out her ability to become each cosplayed character on her Facebook page, though nothing beats seeing her in action.

Now all Squad Six Cosplayers have to do is live up to that precedence too. No pressure then!

We all really appreciate this opportunity and are so excited to share our progress with Death Note News readers, because Death Note is one work of art we are all very passionate about.
