Over on Yahoo Answers, Erwin has been busy attempting to calculate the full astrological charts of key Death Note personnel.

Their sun signs are easy. Their birth dates are known. But no zodiacal placing was ever charted on solar alone. The other houses are vital too.

Without canon author Tsugumi Ohba coming up with times of birth for any of them - nor places of birth for most - there has to be a certain element of conjecture here. But Erwin is going for it anyway based on their characterisation and personality traits.

For example, he's taken a long hard look at Light and come up with the following guesstimates:

Sun in Capricorn
Moon in Libra
Mercury in Aquarius
Venus in Sagittarius
Mars in Pisces
AS is Virgo
MC is Gemini

Sun in Pisces
Moon in Libra
Mercury in Aquarius
Venus in Pisces
Mars in Pisces
AS is Virgo
MC is Gemini

To my mind, the latter is automatically the more accurate, insofar as Light's birthday was February 28th 1986. That makes his sun-sign Pisces.

I have started to chart some of the characters as well. For some, I see how it is accurate. One could look up the transits for each of them, even though the birth times are unknown. With that, I just look at how accurate is is for a placement (i.e., does so-and-so embody a venus in aries, or venus in taurus) .

However, with ascendants, it's guesswork. For Light, I decided on a cancer ascendant.

We have someone working on an astrology article right now for Light's birthday. It will be posted some time during the next couple of hours.

However, it's quite basic insofar as it concentrates on only his sun sign, as she didn't have the data for the rest. Plus it's being written by folk who have had to research the content specifically for this, not someone who knows their stuff.

If you were willing to send in your chart, I could post it alongside that concentrating on the sun sign. Or, if you haven't enough there to warrant a full article, then place it as an addendum onto hers. (I've just checked with her and she's more than happy for that to be a thing.) Obviously you'd receive a co-author credit for the post.

My thoughts on the ascendant of the characters:

Light fits pisces perfectly with his martyr syndrome and sacrificial and ideological illusions. Light's rising sign is virgo, that embodies Light's personality, has mercury as a ruler sign. And also having virgo as a ascendant makes L's north node fall on Light's first house, so everything match.

L:
sun sign is scorpio,
moon is pisces.
mercury sagittarius
venus scorpio
jupiter virgo
north node virgo
mars leo
Ascendant: Aquariius or cancer

I'd say L Lawliet rising sign is in the "middle" degress of aquarius so his mercury is places on his 10th house. Cancer fits his ascendant as wel. If L's ascendant is in the last degrees of cancer, probably his would be on 5th house.

L and Lights has sun and moon conjucted in sinastry. hm... no need to say anything more.

Misa:
Capricorn sun
Gemini moon
sagittarius venus and mercury
scorpio mars
Ascendant: Pisces
She has no planet that conjuncts Light, so more likely her ascendant is pisces, with Light's sun and venus falling on her first house, so this would explain why she's so crazy about him.

I'd not be surprised if she has no placement in common with Light's though, taking account her love is one sided, but as she is present on his life even if it's not positive at all, i think makes more sense her ascendant being pisces.

ops, typo: Cancer fits his ascendant as wel. If L's ascendant is in the last degrees of cancer, probably mercury would be on 5th house.
