Kira is NOT Back! Online Matsuda Storyline Led to Japanese Real Escape Game

Matsuda MomoFutoshi Death Note
The hype was immense. A website with  counter raising expectations around the world; an online plot with cryptic clues suggesting that Kira is alive.

But it pretty much turned into a damp squib, as far as the vast majority of Death Note fans are concerned.

Matsuda MomoFutoshi's 10th Anniversary Death Note storyline - which played on Facebook and the official website - led him straight into a real world event that we've known about for days. The whole 'Kira is resurrected' clue trail didn't hint at all to new chapters of the manga, nor even a live action movie. It was revealed to be merely a publicity stunt for the Real Escape Games being held in Tokyo and Osaka.

What was the use of a website countdown, when that had already been announced a week prior?

The biggest news in the Death Note fandom for years turned out to benefit only the few people willing to fork out for a staged local event.

And just like that I'm not surprised. Can't be disappointed. Our fandom puts up such high standards that even the creators can't live up to it.

But they could at least try...

They can try as hard as they want, but until they listen to the fandom they will never succeed. It's amazing how much money they could make if they paid a few people to read ff.net for an hour.

Yes! Yes! That's something that's always thrown me too. They're obviously there for the money - they are after all business people as well as creators of a brilliant manga and they have a living to make - but they repeatedly ignore what fans want.

I can understand some suggestions being no good with regard to the franchise and brand. But some would be a goldmine!

Yeah no kidding, everyone, even the money-making producers would be alot happier if they just gave the people what they want. Like for instance, how many pieceofshit remakes are out there that don't follow the original story arc at all? Sure, sometimes they come up with better shit in the series, but people want theyre books and comics to be put in the theatres, word for word. I know I would pay $50 a movie if they would just do that for the Sword of Truth series. And honestly, they should NOT have had somebody less smart than L defeat the man who is smarter than L. That was a terrible ending, and any true fan would have known that. Honestly, the producers themselves should spend a little time researching theyre own shows online so they would know what we want (or at least have an aid do it) They should have also made Death Note with 2 endings. The real ending they put to a fan vote to see who gets it, and the other one wins in the other ending. Then everybody wins and the second series wouldn't suck so hard, though I would have been happy just to not have near win, it should have been either Kira or L but they both lost! Bummer.

*nodding my head in vigorous agreement re the remakes* My gang would kill for a movie that features Mello - not as a young girl, but as the actual Mafioso man from Wammy's House.

I love your two endings vote idea. We could go further than that, there could have been so many different endings there, which wouldn't have taken too much longer to film. We could select the one we wanted as a feature on a DVD.

That was the million dollar question, wasn't it? They just wanted to build a bit of hype and ended up doing so around the world, only to leave us all disappointed.
